#258 #259 · Capture some players, not the whole squad · round 1

Ross: "when you capture your squad you have a way of selecting, new players on or update a selected set. Default to all. Then depending on what you select you only get those players when going through the rest of the capture wizard". The two issues are two halves of one choice: #259 the squad step, #258 the figures after it.

What to look at, round 1
  1. Setup asks Which players? first, above the checklist, and the whole run follows the answer. All players is the default and is today's capture, unchanged.
  2. New players: whoever FM's squad view has that this squad does not - a signing (Carlos Baleba), a promotion from the U21s (Chido Obi), a player back with us. Squad view becomes required, since it is what finds them, and every step is ticked: new players have nothing captured. Nobody else is touched - Harry Maguire, missing from FM's view, is not asked about.
  3. Players I pick: tick them from the squad. Only they are updated, and Squad view is optional - pick one man and untick all but Attributes to fix his attributes alone. A picked player missing from FM's view is asked about, as today; nobody else is.
  4. Every step then shows only those players. FM's view still lists the whole squad; the step says how many it holds and stores only the run's, the rest collapsed under left as they are. The checks count against the run - 2 of 2 found - not the squad.
  5. The summary says who was captured, and that nobody else was touched.
Real, illustrative, and what building it found

Real: the First Team of the December save, as the squad the app holds. Illustrative: FM's view on 15 January 2026 - Carlos Baleba signed, Chido Obi promoted from the U21s, Harry Maguire gone - and every figure in the tables.

Found: the store already writes only the players it is given - an overwrite replaces those players' captures on the date and nobody else's (#258), and a new player's squad row is created from the paste (#259). What changes is what the session does around it: which rows it hands over, which absences it asks about, and what it counts against. The rollover worry #258 raised has mostly gone: readers take each player's latest capture in a month (#224), so a capture of two players on 15 January leaves the rest reading their 1 January one. It only matters for a month nobody else has been captured in yet. "New" is new to this squad, not to the save: a promotion from the U21s, and a former player back (#163), both count, as the squad step already treats them.
