#300 · Player evolution, redesigned from scratch · round 7

Round 7 does for the Attributes tab's Grid (#761) what round 6 did for the Board: a card per category, one after the other, where there was one table, and each one minimises to its title. It opens on the Grid. The Board's cards (#758) are settled; Attributes (#742), Statistics & metrics (#744), Evaluation (#747) and History (#152) too.

Grid - what to look at, round 7, #761
  1. A card per category, one after the other, under the same header - Technical, Mental and Physical, and Goalkeeping too for a keeper - each titled with its count in brackets, as the Board's are - Technical (14) - and at the title's far end how many of them moved in his history: 5 moved.
  2. Click a category's name to minimise it to its title, and again to open it. A minimised category stays minimised as you move from player to player.
  3. The same columns in every card, at fixed widths, so a month lines up card to card. Open or collapse a season in any card and it opens or collapses in all of them.
  4. "Only what changed" still hides what never moved, and a category with nothing left is left out.

The mouse wheel stopping over the Grid (#760) is the app's alone - a browser scrolls the page over it either way - and is fixed apart from this, for all five places it happens.

Board - settled in round 6, #758
  1. A card per category - Technical, Mental and Physical, and Goalkeeping too for a keeper - under the same header and From and To pickers, each with its count in brackets: Technical (14).
  2. ▸ opens an attribute that moved to the months it moved in, From to To - newest season on top, the months in order - each with its arrow: 25/26 September ▲1. Hover an arrow for what it moved from and to. Only an attribute showing a change opens: one that went up and came back down has no change to show. Where it went both ways, both show, so the months add up to the change beside it.

Worth a look, with From set to Jul 25/26 so only the real months show: Kim Min-Jae's Concentration ▲2, October ▲1 and November ▲1 - the shape asked for - and Jariyah Shah's Passing ▲1, which went both ways: September ▲1, November ▼1, December ▲1. From his first capture instead, Cameron Byrne-Hughes's Corners (illustrative) rose 2 in March 24/25 and fell 1 in May. Swept over all 85 players: every attribute's months add up to the change beside it.

History - settled in round 5, #152
  1. Where he is now - his latest squad capture: squad, club or loan, playing time, positions, contract, wage, value, stars, happiness, personality.
  2. A season per block, newest first, the latest open; click a season to open or close it. Month by month, newest first: moves and loans lead (blue), then new contracts and wages, then playing time and positions; his happiness, personality, stars and value follow on one quieter line.

Real: 25/26's spells, July to December, straight from the December save's PlayerSquadSpells, PlayerLoanSpells and PlayerParentClubSpells. It is a quiet half season - 111 spells for 85 players, most of them one: nobody changed squad, every loan ran from July, and the changes are contracts, wages, positions, playing time, stars and happiness. Illustrative: the seasons before carry only when he joined and his loans, from Attributes' made-up history. Worth a look: Kobbie Mainoo (a new contract to 2030 in August, £10K to £59K a week), Jack Fletcher (Future Prospect to Breakthrough Prospect, and a new contract), Lisandro Martínez (Regular Starter to Important Player), Leny Yoro (a change of personality), Gonçalo Ramos (here on loan from Paris SG), Jadon Sancho (loans every season).

Evaluation - settled in round 4, #747
  1. A row per season, newest first, led by his best role's score at the position picked, with the ball and without it, then its ▲/▼ and the role. Blue is a new best role; two roles he suits within a point of each other are level, so swapping between them is not a change.
  2. ▸ opens a season: first what moved it - the role's attributes that went up or down over the season, its own asks (the ones that decide the role) in bold - then its captures, each with the attributes that moved since the capture before.
  3. Click any row and every role at that capture is listed below, ranked by his score, each with its change on where he finished the season before. ★ is the role named - the one he suits best on what it asks of its own, the card's rule (#586) - so it is not always the top score; "own asks" is that reading.
  4. The card's answer sits above the latest capture's roles: it uses his metrics as well, so it can differ. Everything else is attributes only.
  5. The position chips pick which of his positions to read, as the card does.

Computed by the app, not the mockup: a throwaway probe ran the app's own RoleScoring and BestRoles over every capture of every player's history, real and made up, and the page carries what it said. Real: 25/26, July to December. Illustrative: the seasons before, from Attributes' made-up history. His positions are today's for every season; the app keeps them per squad spell.

What building it found: read with the one-point rule, a best role almost never changes. Over the real half season just one of 340 did - Nathaniel-Junior Brown's, Wide Forward to Winger in November. The other 19 changes were between roles within a point of each other, which the view shows as level; across the made-up seasons it is 3 real changes to 110 level swaps. What moves is the score: his best role's rose two or more points in 78 of the 340 over the half season. Worth a look: Jim Thwaites (a level swap in September, and his scores climbing), Nathaniel-Junior Brown (the one change, in blue), Bruno Fernandes (where the card, with metrics, names other roles), Tom Heaton (a keeper's scores falling).

Statistics & metrics - settled in round 3, #744
  1. The season rows, newest first, a row for each club he played for that season. FM zeroes his figures when he moves, so a season spanning two clubs has two rows - try Jadon Sancho or Marcus Rashford. ▸ opens a row's captures, each as FM held it, with what that month added marked beside each count and his rating that month alone beside Rating.
  2. Click any row, a season or a capture, and the metrics below are that capture's. It opens on his latest.
  3. The metrics as the card has them: All figures or one category, Figures or Graphs. Each rate carries its change on where he finished the season before, green where that is better and red where worse; totals are counted, not compared.
  4. The lines run from the first capture of the picked row's season to the capture picked, over the minutes he played each month, with where he finished the season before dashed. Pick an earlier capture and the line stops there.

Real: 25/26, August to December. Illustrative: every season before it, from the same made-up history as Attributes' - joining dates and loans - and only from the season he turned 18, since U18s have no statistics captured. Each month is drawn around his own 25/26. Also worth a look: Bruno Fernandes, the card's own example; a keeper, for Goalkeeping; any U18 for rule 5.

Attributes - settled in round 2, #742
  1. A Timeline - a header per season: where he ended it against where he started it, and where he played it. The latest is open; click any to open or close it. A season is measured from the last capture of the season before, so whatever changed over the summer counts in the new one - its first row says "since May".
  2. B Board - From and To, his first and last capture by default, newest season on top. Each offers only what keeps From before To; the rest are greyed rather than hidden, so nothing moves as you pick. The value is at To, the change is since From, and each line runs From to To.
  3. C Grid - each season is a group of columns: the latest open, earlier ones collapsed to one column, where he ended the season. Click a season to open or collapse it. Every mark is the change since the column to its left, so a collapsed season's mark is the season's own change - the same figure as A's header.
  4. Shape - the radar, sharing B's From and To: pick on either, switch, and the pick is still there.

Real: 25/26, July to December, for all 85 players of the December save (squadvision_With_December_Squad_And_League_Data.db). Illustrative: every attribute capture before it. The save has one season, so 23/24 and 24/25 are generated backwards from his first real capture at the rates the save itself shows - 19 and under rise, 24 to 29 barely move, 30 and over lose Physical. Joining dates and first-teamers' old loans are roughly real life's; the U21s' are made up. Amber marks them wherever they appear.

Worth a look: Tyler Fletcher (rising fast, on loan at St Mirren), Tom Heaton (a veteran declining), Jadon Sancho (two old loans), Ayden Heaven (joined in February 24/25), Bryan Mbeumo (joined this summer, so one season), and New signing below for a single capture.

Mockup states - the save has nobody without attributes, with statistics but no metrics, or with a single capture, so these switch them on:
