#741 · One player rail, two modes · round 2: the header bar (#764)
Round 2 adds a header bar to the right of the rail - Ross: "a header on the right that tells you about what you are doing". With his row scrolled out of the rail, or the rail folded to initials, nothing on the tab said who he is; only the expanded window's centred title did. The bar sits in the row Expand had to itself (#756), so the tab gives up no height, and it is the same on the tab and in the expanded window.
The header bar - what to look at, round 2, #764
Player evolution, right: his name, the loan pill when he is out on loan or here on loan, and the ⓘ for his card - then position · age · squad · club. Nobody picked: Pick a player from the squad. Try Jadon Sancho or Marcus Rashford (out on loan, amber) and Gonçalo Ramos (here on loan from Paris SG, blue), then scroll his row away or fold the rail (☰).
Player comparison, left:Comparing 4, the team and squad, then the names - cut short, the full list on hover. Fewer than two: Pick two or more players to compare. Pick two and a role and the rail folds itself - the bar is then the only place the names are.
Expand draws each view as its expanded window: the same bar with Collapse where Expand was, and no centred title above it - it said what the bar says. The window's Close has gone already (#757).
Squad comparison and League comparison get their own bar when they are built on the workspace.
Round 1 - one rail, two modes, settled (#741)
Ross: "We do not want 2 controls that then becomes 3 and 4 across the other views, 1 control that takes settings in how it is used." This is that control: Player comparison's rail with a mode setting. The page builds it the way the app would - one rail, constructed twice, left in Multiple mode for Player comparison and right in Single mode for Player evolution. Each view keeps its own pick.
Shared by both: squad chips, the search, Filter by position, Hide players out on loan, headings by each player's settled position (#495), amber ✈ out on loan and blue ⇠ here on loan.
Multiple, left - Player comparison as it is today: click a name to add or remove him (✓), the pinned "x selected" list (collapsed) with Clear, Select all per position, Add all. Pick two players and a role and the rail folds itself once; bringing it back by hand sticks.
Single, right - Player evolution: click a name and he is the pick, replacing whoever was; his row is highlighted; no selected list, no Select all or Add all. ↑↓ step to the previous or next player - click in the rail first. It folds only by hand, and folded it still shows who is picked. The filters never drop the pick: if they hide his row, the rail says so.
First visit and coming back - the buttons below: the first time nobody is picked and Player evolution asks for one; come back later and it opens on his squad with his row in view.
Real: all 85 players of the December save - squads, positions, ages, loans both ways, and the settled position each is filed under (every one has one). Found building it: today's position chips match each of a player's FM positions by its leading code, exactly - so the combined codes FM writes (D/WB, M/AM, WB/M) match no chip. Five players vanish under any position filter (Diego León, Harry Amass, James Overy, Ashton Missin, Malachi Sharpe) and thirteen more miss some of theirs - Mainoo, Bruno and every DM, M/AM (C) midfielder cannot be found under M or AM. This page matches each chip by the positions a player actually reaches, the way the fix would.
