#790 · Squad comparison, a new view: Contracts & terms · round 1

The second of the three new views, after Game time & form (#788). Ross: "i like all 3 ideas and would like to see all of them". This one is the terms each player is on: who is up for renewal and when, who earns a lot for little football, and what the squad costs.

What to look at, round 1
  1. A fifth tab, Contracts & terms, after Game time & form, on the same rail and header bar. It reads everyone's latest capture, as Attributes and Statistics & metrics do. The whole First Team is picked to start. It could have lived in Squad depth, since it is squad planning as much as comparing players - Ross: "Squad comparison makes sense to me".
  2. Four cards across the top: the pick's wage bill, contracts ending this summer and next, key players whose contracts end within the next two summers, and how many are home grown.
  3. A - Contracts, the table, grouped by the summer each contract ends - soonest first, so renewals come to the top. A row per player: age, squad status, contract, wage, value, FM's stars, home grown, his minutes this season, and what each 90 minutes he has played has cost in wages - over the card's minutes bar, as for any rate; under it, what his wages bought. Click a heading to order by it instead.
  4. A key player whose contract ends within the next two summers is marked amber - a Star Player, Important Player, First-Choice Goalkeeper or Regular Starter, by FM's own status.
  5. B - Wages against minutes: each player's weekly wage against his share of the season's minutes, split at the card's minutes bar and at the middle wage of those picked - so paid well, not playing is a corner of the chart.
  6. C - Stars against age: FM's ability stars against his age, with a line up to his potential - who is still growing, who has peaked, and where the squad is old.

Real: every contract, wage, transfer value, star rating, squad status, home-grown status and happiness from the December save's squad view captures, and every minute from its statistics, August to December 25/26. The date everything is measured from is the capture that holds December, which FM dates 1 January 2026 (#703).

Where the terms come from. Contract, wage and squad status define a squad record (SquadSpellRules.Matches), so their history is kept, month by month - which is what lets the cost of his minutes use the wage he was actually on each month. Transfer value, the stars and happiness are readings, kept as they stand at the latest capture (#187, #542). FM's stars are relative to the squad being viewed, so they compare within one capture and not across time.

Found building it - computed on this page from the December save:

  1. Renewals come in a block. …
  2. What his minutes cost - and where that stops meaning anything. …
  3. A wage changes mid-season, and is kept. … So the cost of his minutes uses the wage he was on each month, not today's.
  4. Home grown: …
